Lake Butler Rotary Club Meeting Review from January 31, 2017

Rick Fabiani, President of the Fisher House Foundation, presented the January 31, 2017 Program that touched most Rotarians and their guests since we were either Veterans or had family and friends that served in the United States Military. Our Veterans Administration Hospital in Gainesville, Florida maintains the Fisher House, a six million dollar facility for family and close friends of the veterans being treated. The Fisher House has a rule which limits people from using the facility that reside within a 50 mile radius with a few exceptions. Mr. Fabiani showed a short film of the Fisher House that maintains 98% occupancy. The Gainesville Legacy Awards maintain an endowment fund that cares for the average 35 guests at any given time. Having a great meal prepared for those returning from their VA Hospital visits helps relieve stress and allows fellowship with other Veteran Family Members. Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Steverson, Union County High School JROTC Instructor was very interested in encouraging some of his students to volunteer to go and prepare a meal for the Fisher House Guests. Any group can call 352 548 6492 or make email contact at gfisherhouse@gmail.com to arrange to cook a meal in the gourmet kitchen or on the outdoor grill.

Mr. Fabiani thanked Bill McGill and the Lake Butler Rotarians for allowing him to come in Ben Campen’s place (Mr. Campen had an unfortunate fire that destroyed half of his antique facility in Micanopy last week and he intends to take his “rain check” within the next 30 to 90 days).

The March 18, 2017 Rotary Club Annual Luau is our Club’s main project for the First Quarter Calendar Year 2017. The scheduled date is one week prior to the Fair and we want to see our 100 attendee average significantly increased this year. The silent auctions of at least two donated gifts per Rotarian with the many gift donations from the community should bring in a good crowd. The entertainment and excellent supper will also be a great attraction to fellowship. Tickets are beginning to be sold by the Lake Butler Rotarians with the table for 10 at a donation cost of $200 being the best deal.

The Future Program Schedule includes Luau Planning February 7, 2017, Heart Luncheon February 14th, Kellie Connell February 21st, Carlton Faulk February 28th, Luau planning March 7th, Nancy Griffis March 14th and Donna Harris March 21st.
