Twenty five members of the Union County Middle School Chorus provided 15 Rotarians and three guests with an outstanding program. Gary Griffis, UCMS Choir Director, had the Chorus singing patriotic and various other themes. They even sang about the troubles of the world! United States Military Veterans were honored and identified by the branch of service they served. Griffis and the Choir received a standing ovation! Our resounding “thank you” was very evident and Art Peterson is commended for his foresight in having the UCMS Chorus perform for his program.
President Steve Wellhausen mentioned the Rotarian Luau’s financial outcome being three and a half times more successful than the 2016 Luau. He also mentioned the new and controversial Rotary International Policy that became effective January 2017 restricting Rotary Clubs from supporting any entity or product related to guns that included shotgun raffles. Many American Rotarians believe this new policy is not fair to all concerned and that it violates the Second Amendment. There will be more to come relating to this new policy.
Ashley Harris, Miss UCHS 2017, provided the Rotarians with Champaign Mangos as a gift. Ashley has a new business called “Natures Table” which provides amazing clean eating fruit, vegetables and eggs each week with a delivery service included. Her “Natures Table” business is on Facebook for more details. This successful business resulted from a future Farmers of America Project and is a platform for Ashley’s entry into beauty contests as well as pays her school/recreational expenses.
