Lake Butler Interact Members
7-29-30-17 Leadership Training
Shane Collins, our Program Chairman, tried to give “Extra Credit” to any Club Member who correctly identified the amusement park that opened in 1961 on 212 acres. The correct answer required naming “Six Flags” in the state of Texas. Donna Harris mentioned a special event on the Ocala Kirby Farm on the second Saturday in September for those Six Flag enthusiasts.
The Lake Butler Interact Club was honored on their First Anniversary for their outstanding work in establishing the Club and for accomplishing 18 community projects in their first year. They also were recognized at the District 6970 Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Nancy Griffis, the Interact Staff Advisor, stated that the Club Goals for 2017-2018 will include the projects accomplished in 2016-2017 plus the Tree Planting Challenge that the District Governor, Brent Coates, provided all Rotarians. His challenge is part of the world-wide Rotarian Challenge for each of us to plant one tree by the end of April 2018. With all 1.2 million Rotarians planting at least one tree we collectively will make a huge impact to commemorate Earth Day, April 22, 2018. Each of the 15 Interact Club Members received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Lake Butler Rotary Club as their sponsor that may be used for future job and college applications.
Our August 8, 2017 Luncheon Meeting should provide a “Full House” since we are expecting 30 new teachers to join us. We have certificates and gifts to provide them. Trent Wheeler and Donna Harris are the points of contact (POCs).
