Each year the Lake Butler Rotary Club comes to Lake Butler Elementary School during our “Literacy” Month to give students free dictionaries. Some students who are graduating seniors this year are still using the dictionaries the Rotarians gave them in 3th grade. The dictionary is a valuable tool that tells us what a word means, how to say the word, and how to spell the word.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional people helping to make our communities and the world healthier, wiser and friendlier. Presently, there are well over 1.5 million Rotarians all over the world. The Lake Butler Rotary Club gathers at the First Christian Church to have a luncheon meeting each Tuesday. Guest speakers tell us about interesting local, national and worldwide activities. Events like the annual Lake Butler Fourth of July Celebration, eradication of polio activities world-wide, the new Union County Interact Club and literacy issues, like the distribution of free dictionaries are examples of events and subjects discussed.
