Article by Ted Barber
The Lake Butler Rotary Club Luncheon Meeting 1-16-18 as shown above (Ted Barber and Joe Stephenson were not in the photo). We had 13 Members and 4 guests present for a total of 17. Billy Ray Foister had a dental emergency and Donna Harris’ father was taken to the hospital to mention just two that were not able to attend.
We enjoyed another terrific lunch of fried chicken and meatloaf. The induction of Tricia Wylie, Director of the New River Library Services was a highlight of the meeting as she is the third new member in our Rotary Year beginning July 1, 2017. The Lake Butler Rotary Club Banners to Joe Stephenson, Bob Driggers, and Brent Coates, our D6970 Governor, have been presented and we extend our appreciation for all they do for Rotary.
Our goal of $400 was reached and delivered prior to the end of 2017 to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) and we give our thanks to Tommy Spires, TRF Chairman, Steve Wellhausen for his contribution of the 50-50 drawing and to Santa for his $100 contribution.
The initial planning for this year’s 9th Annual Hawaiian Luau was very timely since the reservation for the Community Center was already taken for Saturday, March 24, 2018. Our tentative date for this event is now March 10, 2018. Sara Owen is coordinating the planned date to confirm. Our Luau Committee Chairs include: Overall Coordination- Danna Harris and Ted Barber, Ticket Sales- Dave Mecusker, Decorations- Sara Owen, Food- Tony Sweat and Steve Wellhausen, Interact Club Assistance- Nancy Griffis, Silent Auction- Jennie Reed and Carlton Faulk, Live Auction- Phillip Pritchett and Brad Whitehead, Publicity- Shane Collins and Paul Lewis ( David Stegall is again providing his assistance), and Silent Auction Items- All Club Members securing a minimum of two auction items to be delivered to Jennie Reed (Community State Bank) or Kellie Connell (Courthouse) as soon as possible so that the items can be ready for the auction. We have a Community Update January 23 and more Luau Coordination will be accomplished at that meeting.
Sara Owen has the Program for January 30 and Russ Wade has the February 6, 2018 Program. On February 13th we normally celebrate Valentine’s Day with the Women’s Club and more information will be available soon.
Please mark your calendars for Special Training on February 20, 2018 when Russel Miller will be providing a class after the normal meeting for us to become educated about The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Russ is presently assisting us with our Global Rotary Grant for a project in Nicaragua. He is also very knowledgeable about donations that affect our estate planning. Attendance at this class February 20, 2018 will be well worth your while! I will be asking for a “head count” to be sure we have at least seven attendees.
