Lake Butler Rotary Club News, February 6, 2018 Meeting Review

At our weekly noon luncheon, Tuesday, February 6, 2018, Russ Wade dusted off his cookie presentation that he provided the lake Butler Rotarians about six years ago. Few of us knew that Russ was the connoisseur cookie man. His adeptness at making the Sea Salt Turtle Cookie was demonstrated to fourteen Rotarians after his explanation of the ingredients. Russ talked about Chocolate and salt being used as ancient currency in the Roman Empire and elsewhere. I am sure that the two sticks of real butter, 1 ½ cups of brown sugar, etc. added no calories to the delicious cookies! Everyone was treated to several of Russ’ “Lawyer” Cookies. This dessert along with the banana pudding with fried chicken, meatloaf and lima beans on rice made a great lunch!

The NF Chamber Banquet held Saturday, February 3rd had seven Lake Butler Rotarians in attendance and set the bar high for our March 17, 2018 Hawaiian Luau! Dave Mecusker will have our Luau Tickets for distribution at our Valentine Day Banquet with the LB Woman’s Club Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Our meeting location will be at the LB Woman’s Club.

Please mark your calendars for Russel Miller’s estate planning/The Rotary Foundation Training Session on February 20, 2018 following our Noon Meeting. The information Russel will provide is well worth your time.

Joe Stephenson is working hard in Nicaragua on our International Project and we should be in a great position to land a Global Grant of $30,000-$50,000 that will include donations from Rotary Clubs and individuals in D6970. Preliminary details were sent out by email to Lake Butler Rotarians this morning.

On April 28, 2018, we have a District Assembly for Rotarians and especially for our Club’s Officers for 2018-2019. Last year four Lake Butler Rotarians attended the training and we learned a lot of helpful things. Donna Harris, PE, will be providing more information very soon.
