Lake Butler Rotary Club Meeting Review, July 16, 2019

On Tuesday, July 16, 2019 the Lake Butler Rotary Club held their weekly luncheon meeting. President Brad Whitehead called the Lake Butler Rotary Club to order, following another excellent fellowship luncheon. He presented Ted Barber with a beautiful Past President’s Plaque for his leadership as Club President for 2017-2018. Brad then introduced Shane Collin’s guest and son, Cuyler. President Whitehead then inducted Mitchell Bishop as the newest member of the Lake Butler Rotary Club, telling the members that the Union County Judge was the best dressed Rotarian in attendance!

Keith Mobley, our Club’s Program Chariman for the meeting introducted Mike Childs who was his guest speaker. Mike’s introduction of a child being so severely disappointed because his broken are preventing him from demonstrating his ability to ride a new two-wheel bicycle held the Club Member’s attention. The disappointments we all have in life are critical in regards to our witness to those that are watching us. How we respond to our trials, troubles and disappointments is a learning experience for others that should be a positive learning experience. Mike’s introduction made a great impression on all of the Club Members, and led him into his main topic of service to our community. As Rotarians, we are all very familiar with the Rotarian Moto, “Service above self – on profits most who serves best”. Mike Child’s Christ Central Church is all about pleasing the Lord God by serving others. His church provides a valuable service to about 250 senior adults receiving boxes of food monthly, filling backpacks for Lake Butler Elementary School students, and providing a platform at the Monthly evening provisions of food for government agencies to provide assistance to many senior adults who come for the free food. Union County is very fortunate to have leaders and organizations like Mike Childs and Christ Central that see the disappointed and troubled citizens and work to relieve them of some of their burdens.

Shane Collins was thanked for his weekly, “Do You Know” question that is asked each Tuesday. The July 16th question involved the Atomic Bomb as a secret in 1945. Shane is also gratefully thanked for his excellent work as Club Treasurer for providing monthly statements to the club members. Garrett Milton, recently appointed as the new Treasurer/Secretary, will be assuming this important responsibility as well as covering the weekly summaries whenever Ted Barber is not available.
