NOTICE OF PROPOSED ORDINANCE

The Board of County Commissioners of Union County, Florida proposes to adopt an ordinance providing for the assessment of a 1-cent emergency fire rescue services and facilities surtax on qualified transactions within Union County, to become effective only upon approval by a majority referendum vote.

The public hearing on the proposed ordinance will be held during a special meeting of the Board of County Commissioners on August 3, 2020 at 5:30 pm in the Board of County Commissioners Meeting Room, Union County Courthouse, located at 55 West Main Street, Lake Butler, Florida.  The meeting will allow for virtual participation by the public, and information needed to access the meeting will be available prior to the meeting on the County’s website: www.unioncounty-fl.gov.  The Board may hold the meeting entirely virtually depending on the County’s status at the time of the meeting regarding the Coronavirus Pandemic and/or Executive Orders from the governor.

The title of said ordinance reads as follows:

AN ORDINANCE OF THE UNION COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PROVIDING FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF A 1-CENT EMERGENCY FIRE RESCUE SERVICES AND FACILITIES SURTAX ON QUALIFIED TRANSACTIONS WITHIN UNION COUNTY; PROVIDING FOR THE ORDINANCE TO BECOME EFFECTIVE ONLY UPON APPROVAL OF THE MAJORITY OF THE VOTERS CASTING A BALLOT ON THE REFERENDUM TO ADOPT SAID ORDINANCE; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

The public hearing may be continued to one or more future dates. Any interested party shall be advised that the date, time and place of any continuation of the public hearing shall be announced during the public hearing and that no further notice concerning the matter will be published, unless said continuation exceeds six calendar weeks from the date of the above referenced public hearing.

At the aforementioned public hearing, all interested parties may appear to be heard with respect to the ordinance.  Virtual participation will be allowed.

Copies of the proposed ordinance are available for public inspection, at the Office of the Board of County Commissioners, located at 15 Northeast First Street, Lake Butler, Florida, during regular business hours. All persons are advised that if they decide to appeal any decision made at the above referenced public hearing, they will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, they may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceeding is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
