Lake Butler Rotary Club Meeting Review for August 11, 2020

By Ted Barber

President Shane Collins opened the weekly meeting and allowed Tyler Kelley, Club Sergeant at Arms, to have Brad Whitehead spin the fine wheel for failing to show up a few meetings back with a guest speaker. His spin was lucky and landed on a dollar. Dale Walker, Program Chairperson for today’s meeting, was also missing so Tyler will have another chance to have the fine wheel spun at our August 18, 2020 noon luncheon meeting.

A condolence card was circulated among the 14 members present thanks to Jenny Reed. Elida Stephenson, widow of Norman Harold Stephenson, our first Lake Butler Rotary Club President in 1967, passed Sunday, August 9, 2020 from pneumonia complications. Joe Stephenson, Elida and Norm’s son, is a past Lake Butler Rotary Club President, a Paul Harris Fellow and an active member of the Lake Butler Rotary Club.

Jenny Reed mentioned that there are too many counterfeit $100 Bills trying to be circulated locally. Be very careful to verify that the $100 Bills are real.

The Upcoming Calendar for our weekly programs was updated at this meeting and now reflects: Aug 18- Kaleb Archer, Aug 25- David Beatty, Sept 1- Ted Barber, Sept 8- Mitchell Bishop and Sept 15- Kellie Connell.

The “Did You Know? “Program Question asked what American painter, known for abstract impressionism, died in an automobile accident in 1956? The answer is Jackson Pollock.
