Lake Butler Rotary Club Meeting in Review, for Tuesday, November 24, 2020

By Ted Barber

Fried chicken, pulled pork, potato salad, cold slaw, baked beans, tossed salad and peach cobbler was the delicious menu for our Tuesday, November 24 noon luncheon meeting. The fellowship preceding the meeting was terrific and Gracie Clark, Seibel Thomas, and Marvin Griffis were our honored guests.

President Shane Collins asked the members present to say a special prayer for the Nadine Faulk Family and then had Mitchell Bishop open with a prayer, Derick Thomas lead the Pledge of Allegiance and Brian Reagan with assistance from Garrett Milton lead the group in songs.

Nancy Griffis, our Program Chairperson, introduced a patriotic project that has been very successfully accomplished in MacClenny, Florida for the past four years.  She wants to line the Lake Butler Main Street with white crosses with the American Flag on top for our Military Veterans. The Club agreed to proceed with the project and Nancy will provide an update at our December 1, 2020 Rotary Luncheon meeting. She is willing to submit a Clay Electric Grant Request for approximately $7,000. The white crosses will have the veteran’s name, branch of service, and an American Flag on top. Families desiring to display a cross will be asked to pay an initial fee of approximately $30. Nancy will ask the American Legion Post 153 and others to include the Lake Butler Rotary Club’s sponsored Interact Club (students from the Middle and High School) to join in the patriotic project.

Brian Reagan asked the “Did You Know?” question –In 1963 who was the Dallas Nightclub Owner that shot President John Fitzgerald Kennedy (JFK), the alleged assassin, and the name of the nightclub. Reagan gave the answers as Lee Harvey Oswald, Jack Ruby and the Carousel Club.

Shane provided an update on the annual “Dictionary Project” saying that we will present the dictionaries at the Lake Butler Elementary School Cafeteria at 9:00 AM, December 8, 2020. Kelly Dorsey, UCHS Music Director, will have approximately 20 students present at our December 15, 2020 Noon Luncheon Meeting. Please mark your calendars and join us in honoring Ms. Dorsey and the very talented musicians she will have join us.
