This year in addition to our girl scouts we also had volunteers that included local residents, Boy Scouts, and JROTC. The girls began work at 7:00am on April 20th at the LakeSide Park. As the morning went on, groups were sent to Westside Park, Fletcher Meyer Park, Worthington Springs Park, and Raiford Park.
We started out in 2017 by cleaning up just the Lakeside Park. In 2018, with the help of additional volunteers we were able to add the other parks in the county. This year, we have added yet another element, girls noticed that Westside and Worthington Springs Parks were in need of new basketball nets. The girls voted to use their cookie selling proceeds to purchase chain link basketball nets for those parks. It was also noticed by Junior girl scout Brianna Elixson, that the merry go round at the Raiford park needed a fresh coat of paint. In the coming weeks, girls will be back at the Raiford Park to paint the merry go round. Girls also worked to scrub off some of the writing inside some on the picnic pavilions, while their efforts were great they weren’t able to get all of it scrubbed off. It was definitely an improvement.
This year we collected a 10bags of trash from all 5 parks in the county, which was a vast improvement from the first year of over 30 bags from just one park.
