Following a great fellowship with delicious fried chicken and baked pork lunch we prayed, pledged allegiance and sang “Home on the Range” led by President Art Peterson. Art then introduced our guests that included Marvin Griffis, Rose Ginda and Madison Garber. He told us that the Club had received thank you notes from former Lake Butler Interact President Alex Perez who is headed to UF, John Michael Manning who is working on his electrician’s certification and Sidney Johnson who is also headed for college. The Rotary Scholarships the Lake Butler Rotary Club provided will help them cover their college expenses. President Art then presented Nancy Griffis with a Certificate of Appreciation from our Rotary Zone 34 for her outstanding work with the Lake Butler Interact Club. Nancy has been an organizer and motivator for the Interact Club since its inception. Our Program Chairman, Russ Wade, promised us he would provide his famous cookies at our June 25th Installation of our new Club Officers as penance for failing to have a guest speaker. Remembering back several months when Rotarian Russ made a presentation of how to make his famous cookies, we all agreed to give him a pass.

President Art Peterson then asked for input from the Club membership. Ted Barber presented President Peterson with a book filled with weekly Club summaries of our 2018-2019 meetings. Major events like our very successful annual Hawaiian Luau, and the flyers David Stegall produced to advertise not only the Luau but also the upcoming Fourth of July Celebration activities to include the main overall flyer, the fishing tournament, the Fun Run/Walk, the antique/classic car show, the vendor booths, and our new event featuring patriotic donations and a silent auction. Ted also showed a patriotic metal American Flag purchased by Joe Stephenson for an example of one of the four silent auction categories. The City’s Art contest for the Mayor happens after the car show and the silent auction begins at 5:00 pm after the donated items have been brought in ( 3-5 pm) judged and given the 501 (c) (3) tax deductible certificates. Bids for the silent auction items
will stop about 15 minutes before the start of the fireworks (around 8:00 PM).
Shane Collins’ “Did You Know” question was what was a primary use for bacon grease during WWII? The correct answer was given by Paul Lewis- the bacon fat was used for mixing with gun powder.
