Joe Stephenson provided the Lake Butler Rotary Club Program for Tuesday, December 17, 2019. He divided the attendees into two groups and asked each group alternating questions regarding Rotary. The competition was stiff and the end result was a three to three tie. Questions included the Rotarian’s four Way Test, historical facts like when was Polio Plus implemented, how much has been donated toward the eradication of Polio, what is Rotary? (A service organization that brings together professional leaders that provide humanitarian service, advance good will locally and peace worldwide). It is a non-political and non-religious organization open to all people regardless of race, color, religion, gender, or political preference. Rotary was founded by Paul Harris. Today Rotary International has over 35,000 member clubs and over 1.2 million members. It was formed in Chicago 114 years ago in 1905 and its home office is Evanston, Illinois. It primary motto is “Service Above Self” and its secondary motto is “One profits most who serves best”.
The “Did you know question” in our program asked, “The French word ‘Noel’ is often used around Christmas, but what was its original meaning in Latin?” The old French Nouel was derived from Latin meant Christmas or birthday of the Lord.

President Brad Whitehead wants us to focus on the upcoming Luau, our major income source for the year starting at our January 7, 2020 meeting. We are projecting the Luau to be at the Lake Butler Community Center on Saturday either side of Easter (April 4 or April 18, 2020). Sara Owen is researching which date is best for the 2020 Rotary Club Hawaiian Luau).
