The Tuesday, January 7, 2020 Lake Butler Rotary Club first meeting of the New Year was opened by President Brad Whitehead. The meeting followed after a wonderful lunch and fellowship.
Our annual Hawaiian Luau was the main item for discussion. We confirmed the event date as Saturday, March 28, 2020. The Luau will kick off at 6:00pm. The location was also confirmed, with the Luau to be held at the Hal Y Maines Lake Butler Community Center. The building has been recently renovated, has a large capacity and the acoustics.sound system is excellent. The Decorations Committee will be making their recommendations to the Club in the near future and Brad Whitehead will handle the auctioneer(s) for the event.
Local events, both past and present, included:
• Drag Boat Racing at Lake Butler Lake, Saturday, February 1, 2020
• McDonalds of Lake Butler to break ground by January 31, 2020
• Farm Share this Saturday, January 11th
• Ted Barber provided a ‘Thank You” on behlaf of Dave Mecusker and himself to Joe Edwards, RMC Warden, for their invite to the Staff Christmas Party held on December 20, 2019. This invite allowed Joe, Dave and Ted to evaluate 15 desserts and establish the winning bakers. Ted complimented Joe for his forethought in allowing staff to fellowship outside of their direct work assignments.
President Brad Whitehead welcomed Kaleb Archer to the Club’s luncheon as Garrett’s guest for his and his wife Kelsey’s return to the Lake Butler Community. Kaleb will be working with Garrett at Archer Funeral Home and Kelsey is reestablishing her clientele at HairBiz Styling Salon.
Our Secretary/Treasurer Garrett Milton’s, “Did you Know” Question asked who was thought to have owned a 1940 Mercedes auctioned for $153,000 in 1973? Art Peterson provided the correct answer of Adolf Hitler. The vehicles original owner was the King of Finland. Garrett provided a quote in the weekly program that applies to most of our activities. He quoted Vern McLellan, a well-known author, who said, “What the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year”. We get out of whatever we do primarily based upon what we put into it.
