The City of Lake Butler has just released a statement from Lake Butler Mayor, Fred Sirmones regarding the status of the City of Lake Butler. A copy of the actual letter can be found at the bottom of this article.
In light of the COVID-19 Pandemic, the President of the United States requesting that we continue our distancing from each other until the end of May, Governor Desantis requesting that we leave the house only for essential activities, and in conference with and support of the City Manager the following will take place in Lake Butler, effective April 2, 2020:
- City Hall will be closed to the public. The drive through drop-box will be available for utility payments.
- Utility payments will be accepted by credit card on-line and personal checks at the drop-box. It is not wise to put cash in the drop box.
- The utility activities are highlighted on the city website (www.cityoflakebutler.com) under the public works section. We will not be shutting off water for being past due during this period.
- Public Works employees will be working in split shifts consisting of three staff members each working 12-hour days from 7:00am – 7:30pm. One shift will work Monday, Wednesday and Friday and the other shift will work Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We have no inmates to help the staff, our main concern is that if one contracted the virus it would not infect the whole crew.
- The City Manager and City Hall staff are workign remotely, except for Sara who will be in the office handling any issues that may arise.
- The Sheriff has requested that the parks be closed and notices posted. He has indicated his office will be responsible for monitoring it. As the park is closed, it includes the closure of the beach, the splash park, and the community center.
- The boat ramp will remain open at this time as the only activity is fishing and the boaters are not congregating on the lake. This activity will be closely monitored.
- We have asked the grocery stores, gas stations, and others to ensure people are several feet apart or only a limited number enter the building for service.
It is our intent to unify this community safely as together we work through this pandemic over the next couple of months.
Sincerely,
Fred Sirmones
Mayor
