After an enjoyable meal shared by 15 Lake Butler Rotarians, along with several guests, President Brian Reagan opened our meeting. Our prayer for the food was given by Jody Tead, the Pledge was led by Mitchell Bishop, and Sheriff Brad Whitehead led the club in a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday in honor of Judge Bishop’s 40th birthday today.
The trivia question this week was “On this day in 1958, a nuclear submarine in a “league of its own”, leaves Point Barrow, Alaska on its mission to travel underneath the North Pole to Iceland, passing directly through the pole at 11:15pm that night. What was the name of the sub?” The correct answer, given by Mitch Bishop, was the Nautilus.
Today’s guests were Becky Raulerson, of the Union County School Board, a guest of Joe Stephenson, who is interested in becoming a member of our rotary club, Isla Bishop, the oldest daughter of Mitchell Bishop, Emma Perron and Melanie Elixson, two of our local girls scouts, and guests of Becky Elixson
Becky Elixson had our program today, and she brought two of our local Girl Scouts, Emma Perron and Melanie Elixson. They spoke about their experience in Girl Scouts. As part of their community service, the Girl Scouts organize Park Cleanups around Union County each Earth Day. They also help organize the mini libraries that can be found around Union County. Girl Scouts begins in Kindergarten, where young girls become daisies, and learn to become better individuals. As of this week, the local Girl Scout troop is meeting weekly on Wednesday nights at Faith Baptist Church in Lake Butler.
