American Legion Post 153 Holds 1st Quarterly Meeting

The American Legion Post 153 held their first quarterly meeting for the fiscal year 2019-2020 on Thursday, July 18, 2019. Following an excellent fellowship and covered-dish supper, the Post Commander, Larry Feltner, led the Post with a well planned agenda. His adjutant, Brian Reagan, First Vice Mitchell Bishop and himself were sworn into their offices by Ted Barber, a Past Post Commander. Commander Feltner had the Adjutant provide a financial statement that included the expenditures for the very successful Memorial Day ceremony this past May. For those that may have missed this event, you can view the Memorial Day ceremony on the Lake Butler Community Page YouTube Channel, courtesy of David Stegall. One of the items approved included the provision of one cover (Post Overseas hat) at no cost to new members. The motion was unanimously passed. Another motion involving the approximate 75% of our savings being moved to the Navy Credit Union where the percentage of interest earned was the greatest. This motion also passed unanimously. As a token of gratitude for Thomas Fortner’s dedication as the former Post Adjutant, a plaque and gift certificate was presented to him.

The American Legion Post 153 wants to continue serving the Veterans in Union County. To that end we are seeking to reactive and encourage our patriotic Armed Forces Veterans to get active with our Post. We intend to get public information to our Veterans through the Union County Times, the Lake Butler Community Page and other similar sources. Word of mouth communications is the best source and we ask all Post Members to do their best to encourage a full house at our October 17, 2019 Quarterly Meeting. At this October meeting we will be planning our assistance to the Union County High School Veteran’s Day Ceremony. Our county is blessed to have approximately 2,000 US Military Veterans and our mission is to encourage them to be seated and honored by the students, faculty and citizens of Union County at the Veteran’s Day Ceremony being held on Monday, November 11, 2019.
