The Union County School District has begun using the FortifyFL suspicious activity reporting tool. This is a tool that allows you to instantly relay information to appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials.
FortifyFL was created and funded by the 2018 Florida Legislature as part of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. The application was named by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The Office of Attorney General, Department of Education and Florida Department of Law Enforcement coordinated its development and roll-out.
Each school-owned device within the Union County School District has a link to the site.
If a tip is submitted via FortifyFL, the tip is directed to local law enforcement as well as local officials. The app has a 4-step process to submita tip. Your name and contact information is always optional, just skip it to submit anonymously. However, false tips can be tracked.
Information on the penalties of submitting a false report:
A violation of Florida Statutes section 790.163 or 790.164 is a second-degree felony which is punishable with up to 15 years in prosion and a $10,000 fine. Adjudication cannot be withheld for this crime which means job hunting will become difficult. When you fill out job applications asking if you have ever been convicted of a crime, you will have to answer yes.
The FortifyFL App is available via the Google Store or App Store on iPhones. You can also visit the official FortifyFL website https://getfortifyfl.com/.
