Elder Options is the state-designated area agency on aging (AAA), Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC), and 1-800 Elder Helpline (1-800-963-5337). The agency is charged with administering state and federal grant-funded programs and providing direct services to benefit elders, people with disabilities, and their informal caregivers in a 16-county Planning and Service Area (PSA) in North Central Florida, which includes: Alachua, Bradford, Citrus, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Hernando, Lafayette, Lake, Levy, Marion, Putnam, Sumter, Suwannee, and Union counties.
The Savvy Caregiver Program is a unique approach to family caregiver education. The program offers ideas gathered from many disciplines and sources. Throughout the series caregivers are urged to learn, develop and modify approaches they can use to lessen their own stress and improve their particular caregiver situation.
The Savvy Caregiver program is a FREE seven-week training designed for caregivers who assist persons with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. The training program to take place in Lake Butler will be held at the Suwannee River Economics Senior Center, located at 655 SE 4th Street, Lake Butler. The program will be held from 10:00am – 12:00pm each Thursday beginning on August 13th and running through September 24th.
