Following a great luncheon that included pulled pork, fried chicken and fellowship, 19 Lake Butler Rotarians discussed the opening of Gigi’s Cuban Cafe, Lake Butler’s new Cuban restaurant across from the Supervisor of Election’s Building and the celebration of Union County’s 100th Year Centennial Celebration. The dates Thursday, September 30 through Sunday, October 3, 2021 were recently approved by the Union County Board of County Commissioners as the time period to celebrate our County’s 100th year Birthday. Tentative plans include the Lake Butler Rotary Club’s input with the traditional fireworks that are normally displayed on the fourth of July and the Lake Side Park set up with vendor booths. More details concerning the Centennial celebration are forthcoming.
Our annual Memorial Day Celebration honoring those men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we cherish today is scheduled for Monday morning May 31, 2021. Our Lake Butler Rotary Club’s 50 “white crosses with American Flags attached” will be placed on State Road 121 with the start and end point to be determined according to Dale Walker’s understanding of the current approval from the Florida Department of Corrections.
