Following another excellent luncheon and fellowship with the 19 Rotarians in attendance, President Shane Collins opened the Lake Butler Club Meeting with Ted Barber asking God’s grace on our activities and our luncheon meal; Sara Owen leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Mitchell Bishop leading the singing of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, a patriotic song written by Julia Ward Howe in 1861.
Tyler Kelley, Sergeant at Arms, asked the “Did You Know?” question what major league baseball player was purchased by the N.Y. Yankees in 1920 for $125,000 and what was the player’s original team. The answer was Babe Ruth the “Bambino” and his original team was the Boston Red Sox (1914-1919) and his last ML appearance was on May 30, 1935 playing for the Boston Braves.
Shane Collins then installed Mike Ripplinger as our newest Club Rotarian giving Mike and our membership a short talk about what we stand for as Rotarians along with the Four Way Test:
1. Is it the truth?
2. Is it fair to all concerned?
3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
Rotarian Harvey Baxter presented a Rotary International Project that he helped develop. He explained how he first got involved; how the project has expanded and the good it has accomplished in Guatemala. Our Lake Butler Club has financially assisted Harvey’s initiative for International project credit and commends Harvey for his dedication to making our world a better place.
