For our Tuesday, September 24th Lake Butler Rotary Meeting, we had Garrett Milton introduce Coach Kepa Sardoy (Union County High School Head Coach) as his guest speaker. Coach Kepa provided the Rotarians present a synopsis of his background oriented on coaching football. His shoulder injury as a high school senior prevented him from attending college on a scholarhsip, so he opted to see the world with the U.S. Navy for a few years. After his enlistment, he helped his brother win a state football championship in Hawaii and after three years, he return to Melbourne, Florida to attend the University of Central Florida. He then taught math at Gainesville High School, and Bell High School. At Newberry High School he taught geometry and served as the football defensive coordinator for two years. Former Head Coach, Ronnie Pruitt, recruited Kepa to be the UCHS Tiger Defensive Coordinator and following Pruitt’s retirement this year, he moved up to become the Tiger’s Head Football Coach. He enjoys football, of course, and encourages his players to work hard, play hard and do what pleases the Lord God. Coach Sardoy embodies Henry Stanley Haskins words of wisdom that Garret Milton had printed in this week’s programs, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us”. Coach Sardoy will pass on to those he coaches his strong faith in God and to be accountable for one’s actions.
Lake Butler Rotary Club President, Brad Whitehead asked the members of the Lake Butler Rotary Club to keep Nadine Faulk in our prayers as she is fighting a serious illness.
No one correctly answered this week’s “Do You Know?” question. It was, “In the Mediterranean World, there was no soap. An item normally found in the kitchen was also used for washing the body. What was it?” The correct answer was, Olive Oil.
Besides today’s guest speaker, Coach Kepa Sardoy, we also had Derrick Thomas, a member and past President of the Keystone Heights Rotary Club as a guest.
Our Upcoming Rotary Club Programs include:
October 1st – Tony Sweat
