Students head back to school here in Union County on Monday, August 12, 2019. On this day, school buses will be making their journey along our roadways carrying precious cargo to and from our area schools. Those that are sharing the roadways with the school buses are reminded to be alert and drive with caution around school buses as well as in the school zones where children will be present. Be sure to allow yourself extra time to reach your destination, especially for the first few days of school as everyone adjusts to the new school year beginning. If you are not dropping children off at school, you may want to avoid travelling in the school zone areas of SR121, CR 231 and South Lake Avenue as traffic will be heavier. For those that are dropping off students, please be cautious and on the look out for children crossing and observe the crossing guards helping them cross. Plan accordingly for delays in travel in the drop off areas.

School Bus Safety Tips for Motorists:
• Be alert and watch for children at bus stops.
• Pay extra attention to the lower speed limits in school zones and be alert for
children in crosswalks.
• Watch for and obey signals from school crossing guards.
• Motorists are required to stop when approaching a school bus that is stopped
with its red lights flashing and STOP arms extended. (see below)
