Lake Butler Rotary Club August 20, 2019 Meeting in Review

Lake Butler Rotary Club President, Brad Whitehead, called the Tuesday, August 20th meeting to order following our luncheon meal with prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance, and a song. Sara Owen, this weeks Program Chair, introduced Florida State Representative Bobby Payne, who represents the state’s 19th House District, as her guest speaker.

Representative Payne has been a Rotarian since 1993 and subscribes to the Rotarian Motto, “Service above Self.” Rep. Payne covered a wide range of legislative activities to include the expected Florida population increase of up to 5 million new residents by 2030; Amendment 4 (restoration of voting rights); texting and driving’ prohibition of sanctuary cities in Florida; our critical water issues as well as salary increases for Florida teachers, and more. He also discussed some of the issues involving cannabis and its medical uses.

This week’s “Do You Know” question involved the year the American Professional Football Conference (APFC) later named the National Football League (NFL) was formed? Judge Michael Bishop was close to answering with 1919. The correct answer was 1920!

Upcoming Lake Butler Rotary Programs include:
August 27th – Jennie Reed
September 3rd – Ted Barber
September 10th – District Gov Mike Darragh will be guest speaker
September 17th – Art Peterson
September 24th – Garrett Milton
October 1st – Tony Sweat
