Our February 19, 2019 Rotary Meeting involved a brief explanation of where we stand regarding the Saturday, March 16, 2019 “10th Annual Hawaiian Luau”. The Club is on track with ticket sales, auction items, decorations, the Luau Meal, and entertainment. Our venue of the Lake Butler Community Center was changed to the Little Rainbow Banquet Center due to the required renovations at the Hal Y. Maines Community Center.
Our guest speaker was Dale Walker, City Manager and Lake Butler Rotarian. His presentation involved what has transpired in the past 12 months since Rotarian David Mecusker retired. The 5 Year Capital Improvement Plan is a major tool for setting priorities. The Mapping of our City’s assets to include the Waste Water Treatment Plant and our working association with the Reception and Medical Center were mentioned. The Hal Y. Maines Community Center renovation following a fire is expected to take $100,000 to upgrade/ fix. Our downtown “dress up” to include plants and sprinklers is moving along well. Emphasis is being placed on the “Stop and Shop” target for Union County Residents. The “Report Card” is still out but for most of us Union County Residents, the teamwork orchestrated by Mr. Dale Walker with the Blue Ribbon Committees and local and State political leaders shows we have a “Vision with Action!”
